Dambuster Helicopter Tour On the night of 16 May 1943, nineteen Lancasters from the specially formed 617 Squadron took off from RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire on a daring raid that was to take them deep into Germany.
On the bombing run, an exact height of 60 feet had to be held. To facilitate this, two spotlights were fitted below the Lancaster so that the spots of light would coincide on the surface of the water when flying at precisely 60 feet.
The Peak District is one of England's beautiful National Parks. The flight will take you through the Peak District covering Chatsworth House, the Mam Tor rock formations and Lady Bower reservoir/Derwent Valley where the RAF trained for the Dam Buster flights during World War II.

Departing from the Whitefordhill Auction Mart, we route southwards around the town of Ayr towards Alloway, where we pass the famous cottage which was the home of our very own national poet - Robert Burns. We then continue towards Doonfoot, passing the Craig Tara Holiday Park on our way along the coast towards the Heads of Ayr. At the Heads of Ayr, you will see the most breathtaking sights of the Clyde and its coastline, the awesome Island of Arran, and the Galloway and Ayrshire Hills. We then continue southwards, passing Electric Brae on the way to Culzean Castle and the Culzean Country Park. From here we continue all the way down to Turnberry, where we see the famous Turnberry Hotel and Turnberry Golf Course, and the great sea view towards Ailsa Craig, or 'Paddy's Milestone' as it is known. The tour then turns northwards, following the coastline all the way to Prestwick. On our return to Whitefordhill, we pass by Prestwick International Airport, Ayr United Football Ground, and the famous Ayr Racecourse.
